What’s Happening in the Low Vision Lab?

Spring is an active and exciting time in the Low Vision Lab.

We recently completed a successful series of student laboratory sessions for the Low Vision Rehabilitation Throughout the Lifespan course in late fall. These sessions—where low vision patients volunteer to participate in the final lab with third-year students—were held in the new CTC space on Beacon Street. As always, they provided a meaningful and engaging experience for both students and patients.

On the research front, the team is actively preparing manuscripts from prior studies while launching several new projects. Current work includes the development of improved methods for assessing visual performance in children with cerebral/cortical visual impairment (CVI).

Ongoing studies in the lab include the BeST-AID project, a non-inferiority trial conducted in collaboration with UCLA that compares telehealth to usual in-person care for low vision follow-up visits. Additional work focuses on eccentric viewing training for individuals with intermediate age-related macular degeneration, with the goal of improving fixation stability and oculomotor control.

Wishing everyone a wonderful spring!
