Summer Flex Schedules are Back!

Historically, NECO has offered the option of a four-day work week during the summer months (late May through mid-August) for employees whose roles allow for this flexibility, and with supervisor approval.

As we continue operating under a hybrid work model, employees approved for a four-day summer schedule are still expected to work their full weekly hours (either 35 or 40 hours, depending on position), distributed over four days instead of five. When possible, at least three of those four workdays should be on-site rather than remote.

Please note that approval for a four-day summer schedule is at the sole discretion of your department supervisor and must align with the operational needs of your department. Service-oriented departments (eg. IT, HR, Marketing, CAPA, etc.) are expected to provide in-person coverage five days a week.

For those eligible and approved to work flexible hours, these are the specifics:

  • Flex scheduling begins Monday, May 19 and continues through Friday, August 15.

  • Flex schedules are not in effect on holiday weeks (weeks of May 26, June 16, and June 30).

  • Employees who regularly work 35 hours per week will work 8.75 hours per day for four days.

  • Employees who regularly work 40 hours per week will work 10 hours per day for four days.

  • All participants need a minimum of 1/2 hour lunch break which is mandated by Massachusetts law.

  • Lunch breaks may not be taken at the end of the day in order to leave early.

  • Employees currently working a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) should still work 3 days in the office.

Thank you for your continued commitment and flexibility.
