NECO Celebrates Dr. Lea Hyvärinen at Symposium

On January 22, NECO hosted the second annual Pediatric Symposium honoring Lea Hyvärinen, MD, PhD, FAAP, celebrating her remarkable legacy in pediatric vision care on the occasion of her 86th birthday. The virtual event brought together pediatric eye care professionals for an engaging discussion on current clinical approaches to amblyopia.

This year’s program, Amblyopia: Outcomes Measured in Clinical Practice, featured Michael Repka, MD, MBA, President of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and David L. Guyton, MD & Feduniak Family Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Repka shared expert insights on amblyopia management, strabismus, and pediatric visual development.

The symposium also highlighted Dr. Hyvärinen’s pioneering contributions, including her groundbreaking work in early vision assessment and the globally used LEA TEST VISION SYSTEM™. Attendees were invited to honor her impact by supporting the Dr. Lea Hyvärinen Pediatric Optometry Endowed Fund, which advances innovation in pediatric vision care.
