This lecture reviews ocular complications of periocular hyaluronic acid injections, from mild irritation to vision-threatening inflammatory, infectious, neuro-ophthalmic, and vascular events. It emphasizes the optometrist’s role in recognition, initial management, education, and timely referral.

- Identify ocular and periocular complications associated with hyaluronic acid facial injections.
- Recognize early clinical signs and red flags of vision- and life-threatening complications in the optometric setting.
- Differentiate inflammatory, infectious, and vascular causes of acute ocular and periocular presentations following cosmetic injections.
- Apply appropriate initial management, documentation, and referral strategies for affected patients.
- Educate patients effectively regarding risks, warning symptoms

This is a comprehensive clinical course exploring how binocular vision and accommodative disorders cause headaches.
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe differences between primary and secondary headaches and recognize systemic or neurologic red flags warranting urgent referral.
- Perform and interpret comprehensive binocular vision and accommodative assessments to identify dysfunctions linked to near work and digital eye strain.
- Implement evidence-based management: correct refractive error, initiate binocular/accommodative therapy when indicated, and determine appropriate co-management or referral for non-ocular causes.
