Honoring a Legacy of Kindness

Earlier this year, fellow faculty and staff launched The Tecleab Neguse Scholarship Fund fund to honor Tec’s 38 years of dedicated service to the college. Created to support students who exemplify his spirit of community service, this fund is making great progress.

Thanks to 16 generous donors, we’ve raised $5,800 so far—more than half way to our $10,000 goal to fully endow the fund. Reaching this milestone ensures Tec’s legacy and deep commitment to NECO lives on in perpetuity. Most excitingly, it will allow us to award the very first scholarship to a deserving student this spring.

Donors to Tec’s scholarship have told us they were inspired by his unwavering kindness, deep commitment, selflessness, steady dedication, and care for the college community. As one donor beautifully shared, “Tec truly represents what it means to be part of the NECO family. He is a freedom fighter and embodies the American immigrant dream. His quiet, steady dedication deserves a legacy.”

We know everyone already gives so deeply of their time and talent, but if you’ve been thinking about contributing to Tec’s scholarship, or any other area of the college, this is a wonderful time to join in and give to what you love at NECO. With the new fiscal year and annual salary adjustments recently taking effect, setting up a small recurring payroll deduction—even just a few dollars per paycheck—adds up to a lasting impact over the course of the year.

Two easy ways to give:

Last fiscal year, nearly 70 faculty and staff members supported the NECO Fund, the Faculty Scholarship Fund, the Dr. Maureen Hanley Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Tecleab Neguse Scholarship Fund, and more . . . That’s amazing!

Please reach out to Elizabeth Crowley, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, (crowleye@neco.edu) if you have any questions about giving back and thank you for your ongoing generosity and commitment to making NECO such a supportive and thriving place.
